Sooooo....Sodwana was a bit of a bust

Just back from the Sodwana trip and it was quite a trip. I didn't catch anywhere near the species I intended to. In fact I ended up with only two species all told. Three-spot Pompano and Striped Threadfin. I'll list the negatives a positives of the trip by way of overview.
First up, the positives.
a. I got to get my head around slow pitch jigging. What an amazing type of fishing! Throwing little 20g jigs in the surf is so much fun. I got to catch Wave Garrick and Bastard Mullet and it was amazing on the 7ft3 Supernova Super Light. I can't wait to do some more and get better. Its the best method to catch live bait to slide for a GT or a shark.
b. I got a really good pick up on a Mackerel/Red-eye combo but got cut off on the reefs. My mate Pete caught a solid Hammer-head Shark on a red-eye throw bait. Sodwana is such a cracking destination for inedibles.
Secondly, the negatives.
a. There was storm surge a week before we arrived and so the entire coastal reef area was under sand. That ruled out almost all the reef fish so no Speckled Snapper, Cave Bass, Catface Rockcod etc. That made edible fishing almost impossible.
b. Due to the turtles breeding, night fishing was prohibited. The water in Sodwana is so clear that night fishing is the best approach by far. This not being allowed made fishing really hard.
c. I focussed a bit too much time on the reefs and the shore break spinning. If I had to do it all again I would have focussed all my time in the bay. There were a lot of Giant Guitarfish coming out long with the odd Blackfin etc. Living and learning.
Anyway, 27 species so far!
