A lot of planning is going into August's Mbotyi trip. I was in Mbotyi in the August of 2020 and managed some very nice fish including my PB Kob, my first ever Bartail Flathead and lots of Shad and Bronze Bream. I also lost a really good shark at Shark point.

The plan will be to try and clean up all the specific areas.

Firsly, the estuary. The estuary is really good to catch Thornfish, Cape Stumpnose, Spotted Grunter, Flathead and Striped Mullet and small Kob. We have also once caught Pick-handle Barracuda here and we have heard that a live mullet at night is also good for Rock Salmon.

Secondly, the ledges further north and Kottich's offers a wide range of species. Targets here are Bronze Bream, Zebra, Banded Galjoen, Karanteen, Grey Chub, Baardman, Black Musselcracker, Two-tone Fingerfin, Olive Grunter, Stone Bream and various other rock loving species.

Thirdly, Shark point is a bit of an all round experience. But the targets here are Grey Sharks, Bronze Whalers, Ragged-tooth Sharks and Blackfin Sharks. There are also always plenty of Shad in attendance.

Fourthly, sandy beaches like Mphunzi offer Blue Skate and Lesser Sandsharks.

That gives a possible 26 species for the trip. We will be there for 8 days and so I would be content with 15-18 species to try and get the overall total to 25, a quarter of the way there.
